01 · MEANING

What it means.

Fasika celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ and is the high point of the Ethiopian Orthodox liturgical year. Its timing follows the church's ancient movable calendar.

02 · TRADITION

How it is marked.

After a late-night or early-morning service, families return home to break the fast. Doro wat, eggs, injera and other celebratory dishes often fill the table, depending on family and region.

03 · EXPERIENCE

What you may see.

Church courtyards glow with candles and white shawls before the mood turns homeward and festive. Food, coffee and visiting continue through the day.
